MariaIsabel Cepeda Lacouture

This is a story of a little girl who always dreamt of becoming a fashion designer. She started her fashion journey as a toddler, when her mom took her shopping… Mari would nod approvingly if she liked what her mom was trying on, or she would shake her head in disagreement if she didn’t. She was born with her taste and sense of fashion.

Professional Background

As she grew older, she knew she wanted to work in the fashion industry, which is why she completed multiple courses like Fashion Design at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City), Fashion Image Consultant at Istituto Marangoni (Milan, Italy) and Design and Management at Parsons (The New School of Design in New York.)

She quickly decided Parsons was the way to go, since it combined Business, Design and Marketing in one single degree. She left Colombia to pursue her career in the City that Never Sleeps.

In the meantime, she would go after free fashion internships, where she would learn more of the inside biz and start growing her resumé. Her internships include: Marie Claire Magazine, Elle Magazine, Lux Cartel, Moncler and Milk Studios.

She graduated Parsons four years later and got a job at Chanel in Bergdorf Goodman, where she learned tons from a collections’ background/inspiration, to fabrics, silhouettes, marketing, admin, sales and styling.

After a year working at Chanel, she grasped all of the eye-opening experiences and once-in-a-life-time opportunities and knew it was time to head back home and create her own brand.
